Tempe has begun their much anticipated Light Rail tests this week. Trains were in the streets Tuesday and Wednesday for "Live Wire Testing." Today, we watched as an East bound train approached the Priest and Washington stop. As we waited for the testing to begin, I spoke with a Tempe Police officer who was familiar with the project. I know I have mentioned it a few times lately but safety really is on everyone's minds as these trains begin their early journeys through the streets. The officer was on hand along with an ample supply of METRO employees. It was funny to see and hear reactions from people on the streets, some of whom had not yet seen one of the Light Rail cars.
As they neared Priest, I shot this video as they crossed the intersection and approached what will be a normal stopping point. I couldn't help but think how glad the near by employees and business owners will be come December. At the end of the video, you will see a few of the restaurants that are sure to benefit from the placement of this particular stop.. Stick around, we have more pics, videos and info coming soon..
