KISS for Phoenix light rail schedule

Ever heard the old saying, "Keep it simple, stupid? Well, Metro has decided to "Keep It Simple" and to keep the frequency of the trains consistent and timely through out the days and in to the early morning. For now, the tentative schedule will have the light-rail trains will run every 10 minutes from sunrise to sunset on weekdays, every 20 minutes other times during the week, every 15 minutes on weekends and will operate roughly 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. every day.

Recently, when I spoke with some friends at the operations center, we talked about how beneficial the timeliness of the rail will be for people from many walks of life. Todays paper discusses the schedule where Metro's Hillary Foose is quoted as saying "You know you could pick up a train and you won't have to wait more than 8 or 9 minutes."
The final schedules should be available this spring and we will be sure to keep you updated as best we can. The trains will be running before we know it. These are exciting times for many of us!

*Update* I just found this additional article from MSNBC re: the Phoenix Light Rail Schedule. (link expired at MSNBC, sorry!)

I like the simplicity of the schedule and the consistency of service intervals throughout the day. One barrier to transit usage is always the issue of what happens if someone needs to leave work in the middle of the day due to an early school closing, sick child, emergency at home, etc. Faced with the prospect of waiting 20 minutes for the next train at midday, many people might stay with their cars. If the wait is no more than 10 minutes, that objection to transit usage diminishes.

"Exciting times for many of us!"

Including us here at the ASU Downtown Phoenix Campus. We have been told that it will be a guaranteed 22 minute ride from our front door to ASU Tempe. That sounds a whole lot better than sitting in traffic on the 202...

Sam, I am really happy for all of the excitement from ASU! We need to touch on that some more. :-)
