Supporting Light Rail Business Owners

Everyone likes to save some money now and then.. Here are a couple of ways that you can do so while helping out business owners along our Light Rail Line.

Back in 2005, a program was designed to help business owners affected by light rail construction. METRO MAX allows business owners along the Light Rail Line to offer discounts through the use of the METRO MAX Shopping Card. According to Metro's web site you can "Use your METRO MAX card for savings at more than 300 businesses in Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa along the route of the future METRO light rail system. Use your card at merchants in downtown Phoenix/Copper Square and Central Avenue, downtown Tempe/Mill Avenue, Phoenix Spectrum Mall – and more! Please check with each business to determine the current offer for METRO MAX cardholders. As participation is voluntary and subject to change without notice, it is recommended that you verify acceptance prior to use." On the Metro web site, you can find a list of participating businesses to help save yourself some cash as well as helping the community by supporting the local merchants.

Other folks are helping out by offering lunch promotions and drawings for cool prizes. Friends of Transit offers weekly discounts and give aways to help local business owners. According to their web site, "The Friends of Transit Tuesdays program sponsors a special discount offer each Tuesday for a different restaurant along the route to encourage people to “shop the line.” In addition, the organization holds a prize drawing at the weekly featured restaurant with prizes purchased from other businesses along the route as an incentive to attract new customers to those businesses, as well. Friends of Transit underwrites the cost of the discount for each of the featured businesses and oversees all marketing and promotion for the Friends of Transit Tuesdays program."

If "Your Life is on the Line," check back often as we will be following these programs and sharing more information about local businesses.
